All jobs expose you to a certain amount of risk- some more obvious than others. Until recently, carpal tunnel and lack of exercise were probably the most common office job hazards. But what about the damage caused by exposure to the light emitted from our computers? Below we’ll discuss some ways to protect your eyes from digital blue light damage.
Digital Light Damage from Blue Light
We are naturally exposed to blue light from the sun, which can be good for your health. (Think, resetting your circadian rhythm so you know when to wake up and when to go to sleep.) However, our use of digital screens increases our exposure far beyond the time we spend outside. This can cause overexposure to blue light and lead to health problems.
The problem with blue light is that it can cause Digital Eye Strain and Macular Degeneration. Digital Eye Strain (DES) is a collection of annoying symptoms that leave us feeling fatigued.
DES symptoms include dry, red, itchy or watery eyes; shoulder, neck or back pain; headaches, and trouble falling asleep. If that’s not enough to concern you, Macular Degeneration leads to blindness. So finding ways to protect your eyes from digital light damage is important for your health.
